We build custom fireplaces and fireplace surrounds in sandstone, natural stone and brick, indoors and out, including outdoor fireplaces and barbecue areas. Each one is designed around the room, the hearth and the firebox or insert you choose.
On older homes, chimneys take the worst of the weather. Loose bricks, failed mortar and cracked flaunching let water in and can become a safety risk. We repoint, repair and rebuild chimneys, and make safe or remove redundant ones.

Bespoke fireplaces
Whether it is a floor-to-ceiling sandstone wall around a modern insert or a traditional brick surround, we build fireplaces as a piece of masonry, not a kit. We work with your fireplace supplier so clearances and flues are right.
Chimney repair and restoration
Many Federation and Interwar homes on the North Shore still have original chimneys. We repoint and repair them in matching brick and mortar, rebuild unsafe stacks from the roofline up and renew the flaunching so water stays out.

Can you build a fireplace around a gas or wood insert?
Yes. We work with your supplier's specifications for clearances and build the surround and hearth around the unit.
Do you build outdoor fireplaces?
Yes, in sandstone, stone or brick, including outdoor kitchen and barbecue areas.
My chimney has loose bricks. Is it dangerous?
It can be. Loose bricks and failed mortar can fall in high winds. We can inspect it and make it safe, then repair or rebuild it.
Can you remove an old chimney?
Yes. We can take redundant chimneys down below the roofline for your roofer to close over, or make them safe and weathertight.
